Mad Magazine & The True History Of Our Times, a Comic Perspective
Although our Revolutionary Ancestors in the USA were undoubtably a motley crew they did manage to cobble together a decent framework for us. Sometimes we would never know this by the way our governments are carrying on today. We live in a time when the very idea of freedom of speech and human rights are given lots of lip service but scarce attention to detail. As an aspiring musician, graphic artist and maybe writer I tend to keep looking for the humor in it . Of which there is much.
There are so many opportunities for absolutely killer and epic comedy these days I hardly know where to begin. Even dedicated comics cannot keep up and are often days or weeks late in responding to events. I could slather this post with this actual point-by-point history but since I’m most wary of boring you or me by repeating the obvious I choose not to. However, if a true history of our times is ever written - it needs to be done by these guys at Mad Magazine.
Official interruption: I regret to inform you that the writing of this conversation was interrupted by a live bulletin on the War.
But it is no accident and I’m not predisposed to believe in accidents or coincidences anyway. I’m convinced these are messages. So how do we contend and appropriately sort out the hilarious messages amongst those which are deadly serious?
Trusting Dave Chappelle will clue us in once he heals from this dastardly attack.
We hold our laughter as Peter Doocy, Jen Psaki, Joe Biden, Elizabeth Harris, and seriously mentally deranged commentators provide us with the perfect foils on live television. To what do we owe this epic wave of legendary humor?
There is a corollary. It lies in the previously avowedly Nazi times before and after WW II. Although the world was rich with humor during these times it was suppressed effectively. Once the war was over we have such epic comic statements as the film Stalag 17. But now with social media we have many opportunities to celebrate humor that goes against the mainstream narrative.
So what do we return to after indulging in the abundance of good humor available? Good Whiskey? For some, sure, it can be - as well illustrated by Country Music - a great traditional pharmaceutical. Some of my favorite songs are about this. After all we need to remember the kind paternalistic behavior of Big Government and Big Pharma in facilitating our access to great alternative pharmaceuticals throughout these epidemics.
But for me, a budding graphic artist, I felt compelled to return to a YouTube channel I just subscribed to presented by M.D. Campbell , who addresses weighty subjects like Mad Magazine and the use of alternative color palettes in graphic design. I’ll close here with the observable reality - the world has indeed gone mad - certifiably, psychopathically, sociopathically, epically insane. We either go whole hog and leap enthusiastically into the fray or hide away.
But please y’all please watch out for those Russian Agents:
And hold tight for events playing out around the fencing off of the US Supreme Court. Expect false flags.
