I would like to comment on this essay when I have time. I don't right now, but I would like to point out that Ms. Norton does not seem to understand the 'math' of generations, when she writes:

Please follow along... This is easy to understand, but you have to follow closely....
We each have two direct ancestors who gave birth to us. Our parents. We each have 4 grandparents. 8 great grandparents. 16 great great grandparents. 32 great3 grandparents. 64 great4 grandparents, 128 great5 GrPs. 256 great6 GrPs. 512 great7 GrPs. 1024 great8 GrPs. Just adding them together quickly, ballpark, we EACH have about 2000 parents/grandparents over the past 10 generations.
Thats only 10 generations back., taking us back to the late 1700s AD.

If you continue to assemble this series of numbers back 400 generations, you would arrive at a number in the 'gazillions', (trillions upon trillions), a number WAY higher that the total of all humanoid creatures that have ever lived. That's due to the fact that the more generations we go back, the more direct line ancestors (grandparents) we share with people now alive that we have no idea at ALL that we are even related to.

Thus, we EACH share our direct line ancestors with HUGE numbers of people now alive that we have no idea at ALL that we are directly related to, if we trace our direct genetic lines back 25 generations, to about 1325 AD
25 generations is roughly over 600 years or so. So we EACH are directly related, in our direct line of grandparents, to about 65 million people who were alive in the 1300s AD. There were only about 370 million humans alive, in total, in 1350 AD, and about 65 million of them, about 1 in every 6, were, theoretically, directly related to EACH of us.
Of course those numbers are not EXACTLY true because the lines cross and criss-cross, such that ALL of us are directly related, going back just 25 generations, to HUGE numbers of people NOW ALIVE that we have no idea we are related to. That is the point I'm making here., (or trying to).

The 'bottom line' here is that we are each and ALL directly related to LARGE numbers of people NOW ALIVE that we have no idea we are related to. How large a number? The point I'm making here, which I think fits in very well with Ms. Norton's over-arching message, is that in our Human Family we are ALL much more closely related than most ALL of us realize. If you go back another 25 generations, to about 725 AD, and then another 25, to about 150 AD, we EACH are directly related to almost EVERYBODY else.
The limitations of geography do come into play. If we are of 'pure' European descent, or 'pure' African descent, that would impose geographical boundaries on our gene pool, (until we go back enough generations), but VERY few of us are 'pure' anything. VERY few African Americans, for example, do not have European genes in their gene pool. Many African Americans have more European genes than African genes.
The point here is that the Human Family is MUCH more closely interrelated that most ALL of us imagine or realize.
And Ms. Norton's conception of a specialized gene pool of Elites going back 400 generations is not realistic.
Government; you, myself and most of us speak of it like it is an ‘entity’. It isn’t. I get into discussions (arguments 😁) all the time about this. Government is not a (separate) entity, it is us as in all of us, we us or we humans. Not necessarily as We The People, but yes all people. Government is ‘us’ (whether we like it or not).
True, it is a faction of us who desires complete control and power over (the rest of) us. [And in my opinion, people of that control / power group are pathologically defective]. And it occurs all through time, we (the other people) give that power and control willingly to them (whether it is Hitler’s Germany or the USA). Even if fraud or deceit is used to gain power or control, the rest of us usually do nothing to oppose them. Occasionally, in parts of the planet Earth, we revolt against the other we’s. Example; the word “free”. To me it has one singular meaning; absolutely no limitations as in zero (another word with an absolute meaning). But ‘free’ doesn’t mean that to some of the people. Take ‘free’ speech; some feel there should be ‘lines in the sand’, e.g.; you can have free speech, but you can’t have / allow “hate” speech. So what is ‘hate’ speech and if you can’t have hate speech, how about “love” speech (the opposite of hate)? Isn’t ‘hate’ speech just someone with a bad attitude? And how do you regulate bad attitudes or how do you define ‘hate’ (my definition will be completely different from another’s definition, hence the problem).
One of your sub headers was; “Humans are not the Problem – It is the System which is the Problem”. On this point, you and I disagree. Humans are most definitely the problem. Whether we choose poorly or are those humans who want to dominate others. We, as in all of us are the problem (the ‘free’ example makes this clear). Humans are the issue and humans are the problem (all of us). And humans create the systems (all of the systems) in which we languish or prosper.
You ask if we are ‘strong enough’ to overcome. If we get back to a more spiritual society, one which respects all life and allows more diverse ideas, opinions and discussions, adheres to the basic 10 commandments of life, then possibly. I believe it will take intervention from GOD, (literally).
