My family is from this area .. Asheville.. Big Ivey Marshall.. Swannanoa beautiful Montreat & Black Mountain .. Fairview.. I was born in Asheville. I appreciate you taking the time to make this video and sharing it with everyone! In fact my great grandfather (my dad’s grandfather was the youngest sheriff ever elected to serve in Buncombe County) my heart breaks for all those who lost their loved ones .. little children..homes.. farms .. farm animals and pets… they lost everything for greed… and it saddens me that corporations have No hearts to care about those lives they destroyed.. to help them relocate or rebuild…I ask myself this .. how do they sleep soundly in the night…knowing .. that most folks are homeless or living in tents on the river.. it’s winter in those mountains and it’s a crying shame that these people don’ care about the lives they have destroyed for lithium and quartz. The Lord is Weeping for His children.. and I am thankful for all the volunteers.. Samaritans Purse and The Cajun Navy 2016. God Bless you and God Bless everyone of those good souls in the mountains.. towns. Hollers and coves in the WNC mountains and Tennessee. Amen 🙏

Thank you so much and what a beautiful note!

I may have been born - through no fault of my own - in Berkeley CA - but my roots are in the original thirteen colonies - before war and commerce scattered us all to the four winds.

I had great great (who knows how many times great) Grandmothers who fought the British at the Guilford County Courthouse.

Life is strange.

You’re welcome. And thank you for sharing your family history with me. Your great great grandmother sounds a lot like all the strong women in my family. Our roots go back to the first settlers in NC.. WNC.. both sides of my family … and on my grandmother side.. The Reeds …they were all part of the first families in the new colonies … like your family .. in fact my husband family history goes back to the Mayflower … and my relatives and his family they lived next door to each other in Massachusetts. I admire your accomplishments with your children and your love of writing.. and your love for family history. God bless you and your great great great grandmother for standing up to the British … if it weren’t for her and many other strong women and men … we would all be drinking tea and eating crumpets … bangers and mash. And pledging our loyalty to the crown 👑… if folks only knew their family history and the blood that runs through their veins.. then they might appreciate the fact that they are lucky to be living in the land of the Free.. Home of the Brave …because of women like your greatest grand -mother …who believed in Freedom and that’s why she kicked the red coats back.. back to England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 where they belonged .. by the way if you love to read you can read about my great aunt “Leonora Whitaker” -Wood.. (my grandfather’s sister) she was a school teacher in the Tennessee mountains …and her daughter wrote the book about her mother… Christy .. you’ll find a picture of her on the internet. My dad’s mother was a very incredible strong businesswoman .. she was born in 1893…and she built the 18 unit motel and restaurant …where I grew up outside of Asheville.. thank you for listening and sharing your story with me.. oh before I close.. my husband graduated from Berkeley.. he’s from Washington State.. Yakima.. and he grew up on a big Hop Ranch. It’s a small world…

Super great comment thanks!

Super strong women match up with super strong men to make a strong nation and all.

And thank you for sharing your personal story!

Our family descends from the Mayflower many times over and even to the mariners who manned the ship.

On a different note we also descend from a long line of pirates and authoritarians - because apparently we cannot have freedom fighters without the other.

A mixture of founding fathers - Native Americans - Bacon’s rebellion - and quite a few who actually arrived from European nations - bent on building a new free nation - by and for the people.

It is great we managed to kick tyranny’s butt on one occasion - now we must do so once more.

👏❤️❤️❤️👍 Wow!!!! That is so very interesting…. who knows we just might be kin!!

I am kin to the Bacons via the Worley’s.. and my husband is kin to 3 families who sailed on the Mayflower.. And I am also kin to a pirate 🏴‍☠️ named Richard Worley.. I fly his pirate 🏴‍☠️ flag proudly on our golf cart.. his name was Richard Worley.. in fact you can buy his pirate flag from the Pirate Store in Tampa, Florida.. maybe you can find your pirates 🏴‍☠️ flag there too!!!! Hopefully the store survived the hurricane. Oh and one more thing … my grandmother.. who built the motel and restaurant … she also ran moonshine … and I was her cover .. I was just a 6 month old baby … when she took me along on a delivery to Kentucky..my parents were frantically looking for us and they called the state troopers… and the state troopers found us in Kentucky … and she said to the officer… officer I was just taking my first grandchild.. my granddaughter .. on a outing to show her off to my relatives.. and I can remember the NC Senator who lived up the mountain side … in his family’s mansion.. he would always stop by to visit her (my grandmother) when he was home… and he would ask her opinion about certain topics.. and she also loaned out money to gentleman who wanted to start a business …and they we’re thankful because the banks would not loan to them.. in fact one of the last times …I spoke to one of the gentleman …who my grandmother Reed -Worley had loaned money to.. he walked up to me at my dad’s motel in downtown Asheville … and he said your Buster Worley’s daughter …and I said yes!!! ( my dad had passed away when I was just 15 years old) anyway..this gentleman told me that if it hadn’t been for my grandmother Reed- Worley loaning him the money to start his very successful car dealership ..he wouldn’t have known what to do and he wanted to say thank you.. to me … for her helping him.. by the way before a very successful business man passed away in Asheville.. my brother was visiting with him and they started talking about how everyone made their money in Asheville and he said you know …that everyone ran moonshine 😂🙂 I really appreciate you writing to me and I love your family history… family history is of the upmost importance for many generations to come.. I just hope that families carry on the history of their families for the sake of their children and grandchildren and so on.. they have broken down the family unit in this country for too many years now… .. and I find it so sad that folks don’t have a clue about their ancestors who walked before them… because their blood runs in their veins and they just might find that they are so like their ancestor from another country ..and who settled in this country.. oh and one more thing.. my great great grandmother was born on the Cherokee Nation .. her mother was born their as well…

Again, thank you so very much for sharing your story with me. Bless you!!! And before I forget my husband’s grandfather spoke 3 different dialects of Indian and my husband and his grandfather they always walked down the sidewalk with the Yakima Indians … and when we’re were married in Girdwood Alaska we spent our honeymoon in a cozy cabin on Buffalo Lake .. the Yakima Indian reservation. ❤️ and my grandmother “Mom” she was 6 ft tall. ❤️😊

Another great comment thanks! You have tons of great information to share. There is a group on Substack which specializes in family history - if you have further interest. I don't do all that much research into our family but do enjoy sharing what I have learned as time allows.

Here are a couple of songs which tie into the American art and science of whiskey and avoiding the law and the taxman!

Thanks again!!! PS.. all the race car drivers .. who raced on the old dirt track at the Asheville Weaverville Speedway.. as you know they all ran whiskey … and they stayed with us at the motel.. oh the stories I could tell you.. thanks again for the great information and advice and I find your life and ancestors lives very fascinating. Bless you.

There is so much more to the story of how Americans are being shafted by lack of appropriate government response to damage from Helene. Will post new video information here shortly.
