Being indépendant means you vote or let them vote for you. How do you know they won't flip your vote, well, you don't. But at least by voting (or balloting as some would say) you make them take the extra effort to 'flip' your vote.
If you don't vote, they will vote for you and thus you either damn your fellow citizens to have to put up with their shit, and/or prove you don't give a rip about the outcome, any outcome.
That is why they want you DEAD! Not dying, but dead.

Well I guess that depends on whether they just want you dead or whether they are actually trying to kill you. And that "kill you" works well for them because since they are replacing you with a more compliant person, regardless of whether you voted their way or not.
