Recently fellow SubStack writer
called me an ApocalOptimist.1 The name strangely fits the aim of my Stack which has also been described by a reader as a nonlinear history of this apocalypse. So maybe the title should read: A Nonlinear History Of This Apocalypse - The Confessions of an Apocaloptimist.
The purpose of this essay is to feature a discussion of the work of
as he further explores the nature of these times and discusses the practical politics of the situation.PUTTING OUR LIVES IN HARMS WAY AS WARRIORS
My faith and credit go to those of you who fight against this sick and demented time we find ourselves in. Yes, all of us put our lives on the line here even though there is a tendency to view SubStack as neutral territory.
I doubt if there is any real neutral territory anywhere these days - even in most of our own homes and communities. That is the nature of a true world war - which this certainly is.
When I began a SubStack to protest modern fascism I thought about the fact I was potentially putting my own life and the lives of my family at risk. This thought of compromising the safety of our family wrenches my soul to this day.
But in addition to the mushy emotional-marshmallow indulgence of my grandmotherly self there is also a streak of true grit. I come by it honestly having had some real warrior type grandmothers in my family history - along with some distant links to America’s founding ancestors.
When these totalitarians come for the kids we as a family stand as one. I will always count this as a blessing that this is true. And since truth always comes to the forefront and decimates the lies I will stand for the label of Apocaloptimist.
With our families by our side we can be strong but when they set out to destroy this love and faith and trust in the hearts of our families and communities and nation states - the line has been crossed.
TRUE GRIT AND BEING OUR BROTHER’S AND SISTER’S KEEPER
Not everyone understands this as yet. There are many souls out there who cannot stand the weight of this world on their shoulders and who are susceptible to propaganda. But as any kind of spiritual warrior we are our brother’s keepers.
They deserve our support and love until they figure it out - and they will - and painfully - and soon.
Some of us have had the support and love of a few stellar human beings who make it possible for us to stand against tyranny. Plus - for many of us - long lines of tough rugged individualists whose own sacrifices demand that whatever we must sacrifice for this fight it will never be enough.
That we must risk putting these lives at risk is a reality. But - for those of us who do - the idea of choosing not do this - is unthinkable.
But we owe our allegiance also to those among us who cannot fill the role of a warrior’s shoes as easily. There were many times in my own life when I could not possibly have done what I do now. Time and the grace of God changes many things.
As far as those who are not currently fighting alongside us - for whatever reason - there but for the grace of God go we. We owe it to these brothers and sisters too - to bear the weight they may not be able to.
I think one of my daughters said it the other day when she pinpointed the value in what we do as communicators.
She - like most Americans - knows what is going on. Just because these Americans do not - for whatever reason - like maybe a classroom of six year olds - take the kind of action we can - does not mean they do not understand.
As a psychologist and first grade teacher she understands well enough what a precarious position we and the children are under.
She said that the power we we find together - as readers and writers - is in the ability to share the emotional strength we all have in common. We as creators provide that space with which to share and reinforce our understanding.
In other words - it is that streak of true grit we manifest together - as humans united in a common cause.
When - through the bounds of an essay - we share the emotional weight of our understanding of freedom and liberty.
PLACE BLAME WHERE BLAME IS DUE - ON THE INTERNATIONAL TOTALITARIAN DEEP STATE
As Jason Powers expresses better than I - it is not that America’s people are not aware as it so often alleged. He points out this political reality quite well within the context of both national and international relations.
Indulging in criticism of our American government and international deep state is important. But there is an important distinction to be made here. The distinction to be drawn between the valid damning of tyranny and this incessant America-bashing which has become so popular. One is powerful and true - the other insidious and injurious to our cause.
The lessons for Americans of what it means to live under totalitarian rule have come home to roost. All of us around the world are coming to learn these lessons.
The cause of totalitarianism has existed in every nation state and civilization from at least 10,000 years before the present. The American founding ancestors were very well aware of this reality and the ever present threat.
Today we as Americans come to very personally understand this reality as totalitarian rule threads itself through our homes, families, communities, lives, enterprises and commerce.
Sorting out the different factions are important. As in any other war we must define and understand what we fight. But over criticism of those who suffer with us is a mistake. They - as we - are fellow victims of the fascist state and are not the ones we are fighting.
There will be a day for educating each other about how to bring freedom and liberty to every house and family and on educating each other about what we may do to keep them.
But now we have a war to fight. Helping the totalitarians through being willing to further divide an already broken people is counter to our cause for freedom, for religion, or for human dignity.
Stop the America-bashing. Nations, like people, are never perfect. There is no utopia and are no perfect people.
Go after the real totalitarians wherever they are to be found. And be careful - the obsequious fools are everywhere.
THE CHRONICLES IF AN ApocalOptimist
I have been accused of being an ApocalOptimist. I will accept that title gladly.
I began this essay today with a SubStack post by Jason Powers. Powers is always reasonable and refreshing in his approach. His quiet due diligence is edifying. Please listen carefully.
As a writer I accept lots of criticism. I have no problem with this and am pretty critical myself. But someone - in error - said I don’t understand Maoism or authoritarian communism at all.
My answer to that is that my understanding grows by the day - if not the hour - as we in America live under quickly evolving fascist, Maoist, communist, authoritarian and totalitarian rule.
ApocalOptimist. A word worth putting out there. A new word. A strong word. A vital word.
Onward, Christian soldiers, Onward, as to war

Freedom has always exacted a price....Often, from Freedom Fighters.
Sadly, this entire clown show was manipulated on our watch. Our generation watched casually as our exceptionalism was reduced to subservience. It is not the debt of others to pay, it is entirely our debt to pay, for the hope of a free life for our children's children.
Wither on your knees in a pool of warm urine, or go bravely as an intrepid warrior in a pile of your warm brass. This is the time to decide. They are coming for you, your family, your hopes and dreams, your very future. They literally despise your existence.
